I was just catching up with a friend who happens to be an old coworker. She told me an employees dad died of covid last week. She had an amazing relationship with her father and was understandably crushed so she asked our mutual friend to talk to the owners about the companies bereavement leave policy. The owners said, “What bereavement policy? I guess she can take Friday off, but needs to be back on Monday.” Not really post worthy as so many of you have worse stories but what came next made my jaw drop. My friend, who was visibly upset by this comment and happens to be ferocious snapped back, “Jesus christ man have some empathy.” Their retort? “Empathy doesn't pay the bills.”
I could still be working under these utter sociopaths. This community gave me the motivation to see what was out there. If a POS like me can get a 32% pay increase with a decent benefits package, trust me, you can too. I never thought I could be one of those happy people who makes an okay living and doesn't absolutely dread getting out of bed in the morning, but here I sit. All I did was throw my resume on indeed and took a phonecall from a number I didn't recognize. Know your self worth and don't settle for less.
