Employer angry with employee for having a stroke mid shift

I am a social worker who primarily works with people who are experiencing homelessness. I was discussing one of my client’s current work situation and she told me something downright alarming. The client reported to me that one of her coworkers had a stroke in the middle of her shift and was taken by ambulance to get treatment. The client told me that her employer was angry that the person who had the stroke couldn’t finish the shift or work the rest of the week. The employer was upset with the person who had a life-threatening medical emergency. American work culture is a toxic cesspool
