I don't know if this is the right sub. I can't say this at work (a university) but felt the need to somewhere.
We must reduce emissions on campus to meet targets…
You (5000 staff) must work on campus a minimum of 3 times a week.
We've been pressured into giving you 'dynamic working' with the choice of which 2 days to WFH but are now introducing hot-desking to free up space for teaching…
WFH rota (opposite of dynamic) is now required so we don't fight for desks in the office.
It's Wellbeing week, we care about your wellbeing…
You must return to the office the majority of your time whether it's better for your wellbeing or not.
Do not use your laptop in the office. You must use the desktop and screens. 'You're hunched over and it's ridiculous to use your laptop when you have 2 massive screens on your desk'…
I'm doing emails, I do not require 2 screens. I'll be the judge of whether I'm comfortable. But fine…you ought to provide me with the full office set up for WFH….'Oh no, you have to pay for that yourself'. In other words they didn't care if I was 'hunched over' when they made me WFH full time for 18 months. Grateful I could help keep the business going while some colleagues were on Furlough.
Office staff working on campus creates a better student experience…
Students aren't allowed in our offices so do not see us.
Working in the office is better for collaboration…
We chat about life for an hour (or for 5 mins on Teams if WFH) then work in silence most of the day.
I don't know what they want. I don't think they know. I get the impression it's all about control being prised from them and a ton of virtue signalling.
