I work a security job and I'm the only one on post. New guy called in sick for the weekend and nobody will come in so employer said I have to stay until I am relieved of my post. Been here since 5am (currently 7:19pm) and the next guy on shift will be at 5am tomorrow. I thought that an employer couldn't make you work more than 16 hours in a 23 hour period but apparently that's not true. Employer started sending me local labor law links (minnesota) stating that an employer can schedule you to work as long as they want. Can't leave post or else it's job abandonment. Idk it's a decent job I make 16 an hour and I'm definitely not going back to CNA or call center work.i think this will be it if I leave. I'm just gunnu be done. No more.
