My employer (A large government organization) was supposed to send my tax information last month so that I can file my taxes. I still hadn’t received it and the deadline in my country is around the corner. I sent them an email indicating I had not received it, and they assured me it was in the mail.
A week later, I still didn’t get it. So I asked them to email it to me, they said it was against their policy to email confidential documents. They asked to confirm my home address, and they told me they sent it to the wrong address. Not sure why, I never moved since I started working there.
I finally received it today and realized the extent of the information on the document. It has all of my personal information, social security number, my income, etc.
In this situation, is my employer responsible for getting this document back? What if my identity is stolen? Would they be liable? Just wondering what I should do about it.
(Burner account cause of work stuff on my other)
