Employers are using the interview process for free consultations

As the title says, I have done a handful of high-level interviews with smaller, start-up companies and I truly feel like I've been doing free work for people who don't know what's going on. I currently am a Director, and a lot of “Sales Managers” are “incredibly impressed” with my background, go throw multiple interviews with me, and then ask me “What I would do in their current position with (their) current struggles” and what processes I would do immediately. This includes just me walking through what would need to be set up immediately, to me creating slides and graphs for OKRs and whatnot. They always seem impressed, are excited, and then nothing. Recruiters have told me that the job posting is then taken down, companies don't need that position filled any longer, or they went with someone else (granted, it may be possible they didn't like me.)
