Employer’s should have to give you a 2 week notice before firing you.

I just changed jobs to a startup warehouse because I was moving but I did the “right” thing and gave a 2 week notice to the company I was working for which ended up costing me a better position at my new place of work. Instead of coming in as a supervisor I am working as a clerk and hoping there is room for movement (we'll see how long I can wait) because the supervisors started 2 weeks earlier than everyone else which would mean I'd not be able to give any notice to my previous employer. This got me thinking, if we're supposed to give a 2 week notice when quitting why should employers not be expected to do the same when they fire someone?
