End of the year review/Merit Increase

I’m so heated over my increase, and I should be grateful that I am making a paycheck and got an increase. But it’s the way that it was presented to me that I feel insulted. I work for a large corporation and about a year ago they announced that our position would be increased to a base pay of 20.00 an hour. Now I have been there for 2 years now, so the question arises, will we be paid the same as someone walking through the door? That was unsure at the time. Yesterday I got me answer. To get existing employees to that base pay, we had 2 increases over time, getting everyone to that wage. I had a hard time looking past a new hire making a much as existing employees, but I decided to look past that, but when I saw my end of year review, I…

I had a hard time looking past a new hire making a much as existing employees, but I decided to look past that, but when I saw my end of year review, I was insulted, couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Now mind you we knew over a year ago we would be going to that new hourly wage. My merit increase was almost a dollar, but instead of that being on top of the new wage, they just worked that $1 into the new wage taking it to 20.00! Now I earned that increase, and the fact that it was figured into the equation to reach our hourly wage, like what the fuck! I could done the bare minimum or gave 0 fucks about my job and had the ended up with the same wage. I believe the wage increase to bring our hourly wage to 20.00hr is completely separate from what I worked for, my merit increase. And to top it off, we all learned 2 additional positions, and are being trained on a completely new system. It’s a lot. Again I am not ungrateful for the corporate increase, but we all knew about that over a year ago. My merit should be on top of that, not included in it. I’m not sure what to do, and if my voice would even be heard. But I do believe the squeaky wheel gets the grease..and hopefully I won’t be the only wheel asking for my grease that I earned. Thanks for letting me rant and if anyone has suggestions on how to address this to evoke a response that is favorable, would be much appreciated!
