Ending employment – employer disputing final pay date

I resigned from my position with my current employer on 24th March. My notice period was 2 weeks, however as my position is integral and there is no cover I offered to double this to 4 weeks to help the company whilst they find a replacement, which they accepted so my termination date is 22nd April. I resigned from my position with my current employer on 24th March. My notice period was 2 weeks, however as my position is integral and there is no cover I offered to double this to 4 weeks to help the company whilst they find a replacement, which they accepted so my termination date is 22nd April.

The contract has a clause regarding final remuneration which states:

“57. The Termination Date specified by either the Employee or the Employer may expire on any day of the month and upon the Termination Date the Employer will forthwith pay to the Employee any outstanding portion of the remuneration including any accrued annual leave and banked time, if any, calculated to the Termination Date.”

I read that as on my last day (the termination date), I will be paid what I am owed up to that day and also any unused annual leave and banked hours. My employer is telling me today that I will be paid at the end of the month as normal. I’ve disputed this and said no the contract clearly states I will be paid (forthwith!) on the termination date – that being 22nd April, not month end. They have now referred the issue to their payroll company’s HR advisor. Am I correct in thinking I should be paid on my last day, not the end of the month?
