I'm honestly over it. I'm over this entire American work system and I swear no one else I know seems to notice how we're all rats in a rat race to nowhere. Every time he tells us I just think about 1) how easily replaceable his position is and if he died the company would be like “so who's gonna do his job” 2) how he practically abandoned his family for 15 years because he chose his job over his family (likely why he got divorced and then remarried in his 40s) and 3) how much life he missed living because he claims he never took one vacation in those 15 years.
Honestly do people think this is some type of badge of honor? I think it's horrible and I absolutely refuse to live my life that way. I'm 30 years old and I think my parents are starting to finally realize that for our generation it's a lot harder to want to stay working when we work and barely afford our housing and that social security might not even be a thing by the time we retire. Kids out of college aren't gonna be working for pennies and expected to never take time off.
I have been thinking about businesses I can start myself because this whole corporate 9-5 get up fucking sucks, and it doesn't help that I work around mostly women who are crying or gossiping every other day at work. I. Can't. Do this.
