Everyone should respond to all recruiters with a request for pay information

I’ve been a regular reader of this subreddit for some time now, mostly just for the therapy provided by reading a good “I quit” story. Being here has helped me navigate things like setting boundaries at work, tactfully saying no to my boss, etc … thank you Antiwork community! I understand that this subreddit has grand dreams for the future but I don’t really know where I fit into that or how to participate in the movement. I understand that this subreddit has grand dreams for the future but I don’t really know where I fit into that or how to participate in the movement. That being said, I think an immediate action everyone can and should take is to simply reply to any and all recruiters with a request for pay information. Even if you aren’t looking to make a move. Just ask! This will help give clarity to whether this is an opportunity you’d be interested in pursuing but more importantly it’ll start conditioning recruiters to share the most fundamental aspect of any job posting: the pay. If every candidate they speak to starts the conversation with “what’s the pay?”, it’ll send a clear message to the recruiters that we’re not interested in playing mind games (that’s what toxic relationships are for), and eventually they’ll just have to publish pay info alongside job postings.
Now admittedly, we have a ways to go before we arrive at this new reality. None of the recruiters who have reached out to me have disclosed any pay info but this can be a small way to add your voice to the growing call for pay transparency.
