Evicting People is Hard Work

It's not, but I couldn't think of a better title. Anyway, this is a memory of an occurrence that just popped into my head that I thought you guys might find amusing. This was back when my partner and I were still renting out a duplex. I should preface by saying that this place was a renter's nightmare, but that's a story for a different day. It's been a while since this happened so the details are a little fuzzy, but I hope you guys can still appreciate it. So the property management company needed to send over some kind of inspector or something to assess the situation. Nothing new here as this place was a complete dump and hardly fit for human habitation, but again, another story… The inspector shows up and being the helpful guy I am, I walk out there to give him the rundown in full…

It's been a while since this happened so the details are a little fuzzy, but I hope you guys can still appreciate it.

So the property management company needed to send over some kind of inspector or something to assess the situation. Nothing new here as this place was a complete dump and hardly fit for human habitation, but again, another story…

The inspector shows up and being the helpful guy I am, I walk out there to give him the rundown in full detail. I've got no idea what the real estate company told him and I'm the best source of information because I'm the one living there.

Apparently this guy totally misinterpreted me as barking orders at him or something. He starts laying into me about how he's been out all day evicting people and how horrible those people are and blah, blah, blah. Honestly I was so stunned that this dude was speaking to me like that I didn't even know what to say.

This happened during the hight of the pandemic when I guess a lot of people couldn't make rent. My partner and I were both essential employees and were always on time with the rent money. I guess the moral here is like, “boo hoo, you've been evicting those dirty poor people all day. You poor thing. Maybe those people said nasty stuff to you or whatever, but you were literally kicking them out of their homes. It's kind of understandable.”
