Every single time the topic of minimum wage comes up there is always one if not several brainwashed blue collar workers that always say the same thing
1) “Find a better job”/ “Minimum wage isn’t supposed to be livable wage, it is for high schoolers”
This is bullshit the VAST majority of jobs available are minimum wage jobs, and high schoolers make the smallest percentage of workers, and have an obligation to do their best in school.
2) If we raise minimum wage, then workers won’t have any motivation to work harder!
Again, complete and utter crap! People will always be motivated to earn more money, but there is no reason employers should be able to take the majority of someone’s life, and freedom away and they still live paycheck to paycheck and are one emergency away from disaster. It also assumes the average worker is lazy which is very classist.
3) “I have worked hard to get paid what I do now it’s unfair that people would get it that easy “
Your underpaid… if you are sitting just above poverty and kicking everyone off trying to get paid more, and you truly have a skill worth more than us lowly plebeians , why don’t you fight for a higher wage as well? Your clearly worth more right?
4) “But even poor people have ______, so it can’t be that bad”
This is often one of the biggest forms of gaslighting I see because it’s usually something that is a new base standard of living I.e. functioning internet, cell phones or something ultimately negligible like avocado toast
5) “if we raise minimum wage it will increase inflation “
How come inflation has been increasing regardless of the fact that most places have decade old wages? Don’t you acknowledge that at some point minimum wage should increase?
Anyways these are just some of the stupid arguments I hear all the time by the indoctrinated. Let me know what you think.
