experience so far at new job rant with tldr

TL;DR at bottom This may not be “anti work” but i have no idea what sub to post it in. I recently got hired as a CNC machinist at a factory in my state for an oil and gas company making the long pipes, and drills you see in the animations for fracking oil/gas wells. we don't have much micromanagement, so long as the lathes keep turning no matter what, management tends to leave us the alone. we can listen to music, podcasts etc on headphones to make the shift go by faster. My shift works 3pm- 1am Monday through Friday. so 50 hours a week required ($15.50 p/h). We also have the option of coming in on Sundays and putting in another shift at our discretion. Sixty hours total if we want it. Maybe it's just because it's the oil and gas industry, but i can't believe we can,…

This may not be “anti work” but i have no idea what sub to post it in.

Maybe it's just because it's the oil and gas industry, but i can't believe we can, and are even pressured, into working as many hours as we possibly can.

I am only getting about 3-4 hours of sleep a night (day in my case since i work overnight) because I have insomnia as it is already. so i can't fall asleep when i need to. my biggest complaint so far isn't even about the actual job. it's about the brainwashed boomers i work with.

All they ever seem to talk about is how liberals are ruining everything, and yes. half of them are your stereotypical missing most of their teeth from using dip for 50 years, brag about their new moonshine stills they just built, and how trump and Reagan are the best things that ever happened to our country.

They will complain about working conditions, (we work with fibreglass, so we have fibreglass splinters all over our hands) the fact we only get a 30m lunch and ONE 10-minute break for a full shift. when talking to me in private, but when we're all “hootin and hollerin” across the factory, everybody seems to agree its “The liberals destroying our country.”

The irony is palpable. We are being worked just as hard as our lathes are, and they want to blame liberals, immigrants, occupy Wall Street, antifa, and of course Biden. I don't even begin to understand how they can't see the irony. They constantly discuss how “trump” made everything better, but can't explain to me how (i mean for them personally at this job) It's almost sad how blind they are to their own exploitation. they are actually proud of it.

TL;DR I guess my point in all this is how can i see all of this and think “why are we even putting up with this? shouldn't we be demanding better pay, fewer hours, and at the very least TWO breaks a day and not a single break, excluding a 30-minute lunch? how is blaming immigrants, liberals, Biden, antifa, and occupy Wall Street solving any of everyone's current complaints?
