Basically what the title said. The other day, I went to pick something up at work a few hours after my shift. My boss ended up asking me if I could stay late the next day. Normally, I would say yes, as we have been short staffed lately and I didn’t really have any plans. The problem is the frequency. I’ve been asked to stay late most days the past couple weeks and decided enough was enough. So I told him that I couldn’t and he immediately started asking me why. Did I have important plans? Why wouldn’t I stay late if they just gave me a raise? (The “raise” was to 14 an hour). At this point, I was done and told him in no uncertain terms that my raise was given for the hours I was currently scheduled for and he wasn’t entitled to my time outside of the schedule. I told him I have no problem staying later but I would not be doing it from this point on unless previously scheduled. It’s about the principle. His immediate response was “where’s this principle when you leave early?” At this point I think he could see what I was about to say next from my expression, so he quickly backtracked. In the end he accepted it but I can’t fathom why I would even need to tell him this? It’s not like we didn’t both know I would need to stay late anyways.
