My teenager works for a famous national donut chain.
I am not going to name name the chain until my husband or I have a chance to discuss the issue with the manager, and give him an opportunity to rectify matters, but basically the local store is assigning my kid hours from 3-10 on school nights, four times this week, and 4-10 on Saturday.
In my state, the law says teens my kid’s age may work no more than 3 hours a day on school days, 18 hours a week total, when school is in session.
I am ready to threaten to report the business to the state department of labor.
Is it unreasonable to demand of the general manager, that he comply with the law starting tomorrow?
Some of you may have worked in management for this sort of business. I am imagining this guy is under tremendous pressure, and he also has to herd chickens, in that the employees are all high school kids.
I don’t want to drive him to self -harm or something, but it’s unacceptable that between school and the work schedule, my child will be working for more than 60 hours this week, if my husband and I don’t intervene.
