Started as cashier at a privately owned convenience store about 3 years ago. This store was literally the only convenience store in the best part of a pretty decent sized town (census is at almost 100k ppl).
When I started they didn't have a “store manager” just the owners wife running the day to day. After a few months and me busting ass for them and doing odd jobs whatever, they wanted to make me store manager so they could step back and relax. I have some computer and networking skills which they liked.
So now I'm store manager, after less than 6 months employed. I do everything to the absolute best of my capabilities. The store saw profit after I came on. Like almost 20% better than when the wife ran the store.
I run the Business successfully for almost 3 years. Today I got called in the office..they are selling the business, their closing date is in 2 months. I say ok great who are the new owners? That's when they told me, we are either going to have to fire you or demote you! I literally said wtf? What's going on?
The folks they sold the store to wanted to meet me, but, the owners never told me ahead of time. So the day the new owners wanted to meet me, I was honestly very sick. I have problems with my digestive system, which the old owners knew about no problem. But I didn't even know I was supposed to meet them! The old owners didn't have my back when the new ones complained. Im sure they didn't want to risk the sale.
So fuck getting demoted and having to work there as a cashier for them when I literally ran the whole fucking business. Fuck them and fuck current ownership. I busted ass and made so many sacrifices to be available 24/7 thinking I had something good going.
Fucking over 3 years for nothing. Losing insurance and my livehood.
TLDR: So they fucking fired me today after I made them more money. Sacrificed 3 years and as soon as new people want to buy their business, they don't tell me about meeting new ownership, then fire or demote me today from store manager. I chose fired.
Edit: I have added a few more details, also wanted to add the info from part of the title to this post when they said it's “good for me” .. y'all they really tried the whole meeting saying stuff like
“We know you've been under a lot of stress, having less responsibility will be good for you and (my fiance whom they claimed to love)
Also they offered to let me still have most of the same responsibility as in doing payroll, schedules, ordering, hiring….just at cashier pay..fuck that. Like literally wtf
