Last week I informed my company that I would be taking a day off to go to a doctor's appointment in 3 weeks. I had to fill out a “request” form.
Like, I know you can't just leave a company high and dry, but seriously? “Request”? This isn't a request. I'm telling you that I won't be there that day. Don't play at this thing where I might be “denied” because otherwise you're going to be short a guy. This is not me asking, this is me telling. I'm not an asshole, and I think I'm being reasonable, but seriously?
I can't believe the gall some companies have.
If I get “denied” and they fire me for going anyways, are there any protections for me? I'm in Canada, BC. I don't think they'll deny me, but I would rather do a couple google searches beforehand.
Mostly I'm just mad at the implication that taking any kind of required medical or health leave is even optional, especially if I give way more than enough notice. I can't imagine what other workers have ever had to put up with.
