I will be emailing my resignation letter tomorrow morning. Last week my boss tried to force me to come back into the office after working from home for the last 2 and a half years. My annual reviews have always been exceptional, I have never had any disciplinary issues or quality of my work issues. My entire position can be done successfully from home.
We were always told we would get “ample notice” at least a month before returning to the office. She gave me a week. Over the course of the last year they have made every department including the C-Suite executives permanently remote. Why is my department the only one required to come back? Who knows, my guess is the middle management needs to micromanage. It’s absolutely unnecessary, petty, and with rising gas prices, costing me money.
The day she told me I immediately started looking for another job. I opened my resume to be searchable on all platforms. I was skeptical and honestly scared and depressed that I wouldn’t find a remote position very soon. On the bright side- in office positions were offering way more money than what I’m currently making. I wanted to continue to WFH, but if I had to take an in office job at least I’d get paid more.
BUT I FUCKING DID. 100% permanently remote for MORE MONEY than what I’m currently making. I signed my acceptance letter today. I’m so fucking relieved.
No more “employee of the month” meetings where ONLY MANAGERS AND SUPERVISORS win the gift card. I’m not joking and this was supposed to “boost morale”. No more shitty “mandatory”office luncheons requiring you to come in hopes that the room temp plain pizza will make you forget how much it sucks here.
Today they had a “big important meeting”. Don’t worry! It’s good news! What was it? They changed workers titles. That literally mean nothing. No raise, no bonus, just a feeble attempt to get you excited about doing the same if not more work than you already are for the same amount of money. I guess it only helps your resume for when you quit this stupid place.
Don’t be afraid to leave that shit job. Keep your head up and keep looking because there are opportunities out there. Keep looking even after you’ve found another job in case something better pops up before you’re burnt out where you currently are. That’s what I’m doing from now on. Fuck all these corps. Get me my bag and fuck off.
