To start English is not my first language and I don’t live in the US.
So a few weeks ago I had an accident and I broke a few bones on my right leg, my doctor gave me a 15 day sick leave, since it wasn’t that bad I decided to still go to work, but as soon as I arrived to work they sent me back home, I tried telling them that I didn’t want the sick leave because that means that I will only be paid 50% of my salary during my sick leave but there was nothing I could do.
The day I have to go back to work was payday, I started my day and out of nowhere I get called by my manager into a conference room where she proceeded to tell me I was fired for missing so many days even if it was on a sick leave, and because I was on my trial period they could fire me for any reason.
I started talking to to a lawyer and looking for a new job, but decided to pay 2 months of rent up front just in case I couldn’t find anything, it took me some time to find a job, but luckily after a month and a half I was able to find a new job that I start this week, unfortunately I will have to walk 40+ km (25 miles) to go to work, on a healing broken foot, because I can’t afford the bus pass until payday.
Saddest thing is that the job that fired me was the first job I’ve had where I was actually happy, I was the top performer, and gave it 110% effort, and they just discarded me like nothing.
