Fired due to fraud

I'm not sure if this is ok to post here but I thought it may be a relevant example of greedy employers that don't care about anyone but themselves. Back in 2007, the owner of a medical laboratory I worked for was being investigated for Medicare fraud (he was adding extra charges for things that weren't actually done). One day, out of nowhere, the FBI raided the place and seized tons of computers, and boxes and boxes of files. No one was allowed in our out. They pulled each employee individually into a room and interviewed everyone separately. It was so crazy, like out of a movie. I was working in billing at the time, but I was not the person who billed claims to Medicare. During questioning, I was told by the agent that for my safety from culpability, I should not do anything that could even be related…

During questioning, I was told by the agent that for my safety from culpability, I should not do anything that could even be related to the ongoing investigation or anything that makes me feel uncomfortable.

A few days later he comes in to the billing office, and because the person that does the Medicare claims was out that day, he asked me to submit some claims. They looked like they had the fraudulent charges attached. I politely said I didn't feel comfortable doing that. He had the audacity to get mad and told me to just do it and I said no, what's her bucket will be back tomorrow and she can take care of it. I wasn't rude or anything. He stormed off and a couple hours later I was fired.

In the end, I got lots of unemployment, which he fought hard against. So hard that we had to have an in person mediator hear our cases. As soon as I said FBI and Medicare fraud, it was over. In the end he lost his business, his wife and any pride he may have had. And he deserved it all.

The End
