Antiwork

Fired for asking for a reference from an employee. Now I make $5 more an hour more than my previous supervisor/ top performer.

I recently got an offer on indeed that I assumed was just another one of those spam letters with insert name here but I respond anyway because the benefits listed were appealing. A real person responded and she sold me in the first 3 sentences. She listed exactly how much the position was for (pretty good for my area and obviously better than my previous job had to offer) all of the benefits and a list of new hire requirements. The process was arduous and repetitive, especially while trying to keep a full time job to ya know, live. But I thought I had pulled it off perfectly until somewhere around my 3rd interview I got a call from my boss… In short he said there wasn’t any work (bs) and I was the lowest on the totem pole. I challenged this with proof and his response was something like…

In short he said there wasn’t any work (bs) and I was the lowest on the totem pole. I challenged this with proof and his response was something like
“I don’t have to disclose why we’re letting you go but bc I’m a nice guy I’ll just let you know that my “buddy” told us you had another job lined up and it wouldn’t be fair to pay you going forward”

This obviously sucked, but I got the job so whatever. I have been working for two weeks and just got paid exactly what was promised and it feels good.

The part I can’t let go is how many of those guys in that company tried to act like my friend, having them over with my girl and overall just being cool. I haven’t heard from a single one since. Not a sad to see you go, or a hey man I heard they fired you hope everythings good, nothing.

Threw talking to a few of them over the past few years there are a few guys who have also expressed that they’re being underpaid and others who are just complacent.

Im not usually a vengeful person, and business is business but the facts that none of them checked on me, some ratted me out which ultimately left me unemployed for a month. Living paycheck to paycheck this obviously was super difficult but these guys who I considered my friends vanished.

They left me in the group chat, and it takes everything in me not to call everyone out for being spineless and complacent in a company that will drop you in a second. With a copy of my offer letter that again trumps their top earner.

Apart of me knows I’m being a little dramatic so I have just succeeded in spite so far. Should I continue or any advice on a perhaps better way to fix my perceived betrayal?

TLDR: Canned from job bc someone I thought was a friend snitched to my boss that I was using him as a reference. No one including the few friends I made have reached out since. Is there revenge to be had or should I succeeed in silence?
