Fired for tardiness. No write-ups and a continued hostile and ever-changing work environment.

I work facilities maintenance at a low income housing apartment complex. There is one Property Manager here that “runs” the place. She is a bitter woman who is just 60 this year. I’ve found that she makes the same hourly wage as I do after working for this company for “10 years”. I’m making $18/hr and am responsible for all general maintenance whether that be by tenant request or just upkeep. As I mentioned in my title, I was fired for tardiness. I will admit that I’ve been 15-30 minutes late more than my fair share. In all honesty I’ve been coping with a lot of life stressors and it’s been difficult to get out of bed some mornings. There are a couple things that bother me. I’m getting work done, it’s getting done in a reasonable amount of time given my resources and that I’m learning a lot of…

I’m getting work done, it’s getting done in a reasonable amount of time given my resources and that I’m learning a lot of this as I go because I have an industrial maintenance background.

In my hiring interview it was made apparent that there was a lot of flexibility in the job and its hours.

Also, this property manager made it very clear to me that she had been through 3 different maintenance folks in the last 6 months just about. All of her potential maintenance employees prior to me had lived at this complex and abused privilege and what have you or did a terrible job.

I’m getting better every day and also getting tenants issues resolved as they come.

I’m not officially fired yet I suppose but I also haven’t had an opportunity to plead my case with my Property Manager’s superiors.

Wish me luck and give advice.

I’m in Seneca, South Carolina for anyone who seems that info useful.
