Back at the end of 2008 and beginning of 2009 when the economy went to shit I lost my job along with so many others. After a few months of being on unemployment I landed a job at a fast food restaurant as manager. This place was in a mall and I was more than qualified for it. It was 12 an hour, staff made 8 which was minimum here at the time. After a month sales were 12% over the previous year, we had the highest secret shopper score in the entire region, corporate came by with the owners and were very impressed with how I ran the store. It was clean and above their standards.
One evening as I was closing with staff I was having dinner in the main eating area of the mall with a neighbor who also was a manager of another restaurant at the mall, but owned and run by the same management team. I mentioned to her that my dream was to get an education and one day get into the IT field.
Next day the district manager came in, pulled me aside and said she heard about what I said. I acknowledged it and said ya, one day I want to.
She told.me she expected me in this management position for at least 3-5 years probably a lot longer and hearing this really angered her. She said it made her look really bad hiring a manager who didn't have that kind of committment and was a reminder to her why she didn't ever hire men ( men are lazy and a lot more untrustworthy and much more lazy than women, she was a women also). On the spot I was fired.
I gave my keys, went to the back, got my stuff and left.
For privacy sake I won't say tell anyone that this is the New York Fries in Seven Oaks mall. Don't want to make them look bad.
