Hey guys, I was recently fired from my job very recently out of the blue on a video call. I wasn’t given any explanation when I requested but to only assess how I interact with people. I was explicitly told it was not about my job performance but my role as a manager extends beyond the daily work but no concrete explanation as to what that means.
I am an independent contractor for this company and had signed a contract of 3 years in 2020.
I work remotely from the another country for the company.
The contract is filed under the New York law and it explicitly mentions that if the company wants to terminate the contract that they will give me at least 4 weeks written notice. I didn’t receive anything. Was just asked to get on a call with the HR present and was told that the ties between me and company are being terminated. Fifteen minutes after the call my company mail was disabled and so was my slack profile.
I was also told that I don’t hold the company’s recommendation anymore.
I showed a lawyer friend the contract to ask if there is any clause that the company can terminate me without any notice and there isn’t any.
There is no clause in the contract which mentions that the company needs to give me a reason for termination.
While I wouldn’t want to take any legal action just yet. I want to ask if I am within my legal rights to ask the company to provide me
1. The 4 week notice period along with a written termination letter.
2. For an explanation for the grounds of termination.
Please let me know if you require any additional details. I won’t be able to provide any personal details of course.
Will I face any repercussions from the company for asking the above?
