I started at TickPick on Monday. I was fired today, Friday, for having to go to the emergency room Thursday.
I worked half a shift on Thursday, then I left due to having severe pain, which I knew was due to my disability/chronic illness. I went to the ER. I received a doctor’s note and I sent that along with a picture of my wristband and the hospital room to TickPick and their staffing agency HireArt. It released me from work for three days, but since the weekend was coming up I just needed to miss 1 full day of work: today, Friday.
I ended up having to go to a second hospital, but luckily was released today around 11 am. I got home, and the first phone call I received was from HireArt telling me that TickPick had decided to let me go. Why? Because they don’t think I can catch up with the training.
This is complete bullshit. It’s a customer service role and it’s very easy. I already know how to use the 5 different applications I would’ve needed to use. I sat through all the dumb fucking presentations. The training was supposed to last two weeks. In total I missed less than 8 hours of work before they canned me (half a shift Thursday and half a shift Friday).
What makes it even worse is that one of the other girls in my virtual training group was an hour late the first day, and they didn’t even mention it. Another guy in my training group is juggling training with some second job, and he frequently leaves the Google meeting to attend “meetings”. He maybe attends 1-2 hours of training a day. They are completely okay with this and have some sort of understanding with him.
Yet somehow I am the one unable to make up the missed training? It makes no sense. I am so disappointed. I left stable employment for this position. It sounded great – a pay raise, benefits, etc. and then they fucked me over like I was meaningless.
Fuck TickPick and their toxic culture and discrimination against those with health issues. Fuck HireArt for not fighting for me.
I’ve initiated a complaint with EOEC, but what else can I do?
