I work in childcare and I started at a new daycare yesterday. First thing when I walk in I’m told I can’t clock in early but I’m shown to a classroom to “observe”
Few minutes later the teacher leaves the room, so I’m forced to supervise children while off the clock for about 5 minutes,
Two teachers come back. One of them calls me to the office and shows me how to clock in. I work for 4 hours and witness so many violations of our state’s minimum standards for childcare and, due to lack of cleaning supplies, I had to violate some as well. We’re talking issues with child supervision, hygiene and cleanliness, diaper changing and hand washing, you name it. I went on my break, blocked the numbers of my bosses and the business, and didn’t go back.
Some of my family and friends think I should’ve gone back because I need the job, but I didn’t want to get involved with illegal practices. I feel I did the right thing but I have a heavy conscience.
