First time working a minimum wage job at a grocery store. What’s the wildest thing you’ve realised?

So I started working part time at a grocery store for the first time in my life, I’m 25. Thought it was a good way to get some money and stay productive while looking for a permanent job in my field. I’ve always worked office jobs and worked at big organisations. Haven’t done quote on quote labour work since I was a teenager doing some causal ushering and scanning jobs at events and even that was just for fun. So I start working at the grocery store and what absolutely blows my mind is that you have to clock in and out for lunch breaks because you don’t get paid for those 30 minutes. That’s absolutely mental to me.

The minimum wage workers have to clock in and out for lunch breaks while the people in the corporate office of these supermarket chains, get paid a salary, don’t have their lunch breaks counted against them, leave early, have “business meetings” at restaurants and golf courses.

It just blew my mind how much these corporations police minimum wage workers. I just can’t believe it. How shameless can you be ffs.

I expected to be paid for 8 hours and a half, I got paid for 8 hours because my lunch break isn’t included wtf are they on about. I’m having a lunch break at work because I’m working. Just nonsense.

Another thing I realised is that people working minimum wage jobs and actually putting in work are the enemy. Stressing yourself and everyone else out to be exploited? Minimum wage gets minimum effort. It’s sad these people put in hard work for what? To be the deli manager in 20 years? Get a life. If you’re going to work minimum wage work might as well enjoy it and not stress yourself out.

What’s some of the other ridiculous things you’ve faced at your work places?
