Every job I've had tricks you into working more hours than you signed up for. Usually it's just managers that have no shame begging you to stay late or come in early for every shift, or “temporary demand” where they refuse to hire someone else because they can make you take on their work.
But I got hired at Amazon recently for a very part time 16 hour week position. They didn't inform us until after being hired that there is a thing called a flex hour, that can go up or down based on the day's particular demand. So my standard 4 hour shift could end up being anywhere between 3-5 hours. Except its ALWAYS 5 hours. I have deadass never worked a 4 hour day or 16 hour week.
Its not that a 20 hour week is so much harder to work, but it's the fact that I didn't sign up for that lmao. 3 of the people I got hired with quit immediately because they have other jobs or responsibilities right after our 4 hour shifts are up and the flex hour fucks that up. Why not just disclose the extra hour in the application process?
