Ever since becoming aware of the anti-work movement, I get incredibly sad and upset whenever I see people gleefully participating in their own exploitation.
My [future] MIL cleans houses on the side to earn extra money. One of her clients is a rich woman who lives in a lovely large house with some dogs. I've seen pictures of the place, and yes; it's nice. It's a big, pretty house 🤷‍️ Anyway, for my MIL's birthday, the client proposed a “gift” for my MIL – MIL would “be allowed to” stay in the house and dog-sit/house-sit while the client and her husband went out of town for a few days. My MIL was absolutely thrilled with this arrangement. She was gushing to my fiancĂ© and I about how lucky she was and how exciting it is that she “gets to” stay for a couple days in this house and take care of the dogs. Now I know my MIL, so she probably wasn't asked to clean, but I guarantee she's gonna clean that house from top to bottom while she's there. So basically she's watching the house, taking care of the dogs, and deep cleaning the place. . . for her birthday. But she's happy, because she gets to experience life in house that has more rooms than hers for a few day.
Am I the only one who thinks this is so fucked? In what universe is this what we aspire to? Playing pretend in a rich person's home like it's a present. Idk. I hate it here.
