I was supposed to enter a fishing tournament this weekend out of state. Last week the employee who should be on call this week quit because of our bullshit. At 3pm yesterday I was supposed to get off and head that way id already paid for the tournament and hotel. At 245 I finished my last call and they sent my coworker home but the office told me im on call because the coworker who's rotation it was quit and my manager wanted to have a weekend to himself. I was then forced to work till 730 pm. Every call I went on they thanked me for coming out and even said the office said they couldn't get there till Monday but my company owner wanted the money that day. I called the owner and told him I could not do these calls as I had a fishing trip that was already payed for and I wasn't even supposed to be on call and he said we all gotta make sacrifices and he was busy and wanted to do lawn work so he's unavailable. He thanked me and said id be getting paid 4.5 hrs of overtime but that's not the point. Being on call just cost me not only what I spent on the trip that I now lost but the memories. I don't enjoy much other than fishing and I had that taken for me for what because my company wanted to charge someone 300 bucks an hour for overtime while giving me almost none of that money. I'm fucking done man if you're understaffed stop taking all this work there's other plumbing companies we don't have to take every call especially when a customer agrees to wait but you wanna be greedy and charge double time for overtime
