So I work in a child care adjacent service. Permanent staff get rate x plus benefits, casual staff get no benefits but y rate is higher.
I'm sure you all know that every child care service is screaming for staff at the moment, and yet one of my colleagues is only getting seven hours of shifts per week. They're refusing to give him extra hours unless he signs on as permanent, and they can pay him less.
It's such a scummy thing to do that the only reason I haven't quit/started looking elsewhere is because they're paying for me to do a two year traineeship. And even that won't hold me for long, because a lot of places offer traineeships.
