Found out that on cruise liners (from the UK at least) that same job levels on boats get paid differently depending on what country you come from. Global south country workers get less than Europeans – despite doing the same job.

I have a friend who works in management for a major international cruise company. She told me that based on what country you’re originally from, you get paid less. African, South East Asian workers get paid less than people from the US or Europeans. While she said she did her best to immediately hire people into slightly senior job grades to ensure people get paid the same – she’s only one person in a rotten industry, and only on one part of the ship ops (hospitality) So aside from destroying our oceans, cruise operators are conducting some of the biggest surplus value thievery on the planet and swimming in the misery of others.
