I have a friend who has been working at a local grocery store for around two years. A few days ago he was fired for “stealing a candy bar.” When it was slow he would sometimes buy a snack at his check stand to pass time. One of these times he picked up a piece of candy to scan, but was quickly made busy by a customer. He put the bar down and helped the customer. After this, he purchased and ate it. Several days later he was called into the office and they showed him video of him “stealing the candy bar” by setting it down before purchasing. They didn’t bother to look any further in the video. Then, when my friend denied this saying he obviously didn’t steal it, they pressed him saying that they would call the police if he didn’t admit it. So, he got fired on the spot for admitting to it as he didn’t want the added stress of the police. So, let this serve as a reminder, NO BUSINESS however small or local or family run has ANY regard for treating you fairly. Companies with good treatment towards workers are the EXCEPTION to this, never the standard. As a final note he did end up telling his coworkers and they’re all pissed. I will update if anything of note happens.
