From the perspective of a member of Gen Z

I am a 17 year old female, born in 2004, which means that I fall into Generation Z. I’m a senior in high school in the US and have lurked on this subreddit for the past few months. I just wanted to make a post highlighting my perspective as someone who will soon be going into college and eventually the work force. Most of the posts I see on here scare and anger me. They make me want to help improve the workforce, to help do something useful with my life and future career. I’m planning to go into video game design, hopefully become self employed as an indie game developer, but with the economy in its state I fear that this dream could end up never becoming reality.

Most of the other people within my generation I’ve spoken to about this topic are either completely lost, want to seek self employment, or just want to be able to live. We’re the generation that has been told we could be whatever we wanted to be when we grew up. However, now that we’re grown, now that we’ve spent our childhoods watching all the older generations argue over how the world should be, many of my generation fear that we may be left behind to pick up the pieces.

We’re called spoiled and immature when we’ve grown up with the most powerful yet most dangerous intelligence tool ever seen in all of history. We’re an overwhelmingly connected, yet disconnected generation that struggles to be social in person why having way too much knowledge of how to use what’s on our computer screens.

I know I do not represent my entire generation. No one of us does, and that’s not what I’m trying to do here. However, I figured I could speak on the basics of my experience and possibly seek advice and guidance. Thank you for hearing my thoughts.
