Frustrating US New Parent Leave

For context, I work for a company that employs globally. I recently found out that I am pregnant and my husband and I are excited to be parents. After my first doctors appointment I logged on to the company's intranet to look up the maternity leave policy. So I type in the search box 'maternity leave' and a policy document comes up. I open the document and see that it says 26 weeks off! I'm excited, but I've heard horror stories about US family leave policies so I email HR to confirm what I'm reading. Well, apparently the 26 weeks is only for our European branch. The US offices (where the corporate headquarters are) only allow for four weeks with the new baby.
