Hi all,
I recently got accepted to a top US medical school and got a full ride after getting off the waitlist. I didn’t know I would get accepted off the waitlist late June as I doubted myself since it’s very competitive. However, after working as a cashier, med tech, and other low paying and high hour and unfulfilling jobs, I was really excited to get this job. After 4 months in, I really enjoy my job (it’s clinical research), my team does happy hour every Tuesday for lunch (we finish work early). I work for one of the best academic healthcare systems in the country. Originally, I was going to reapply, but now I am definitely enrolling in medical school this fall. This health system wanted to a 2 year commitment from a premed that did not tell them that they already applied. Basically, I would be guaranteed a residency spot had I stayed. But, since I’m leaving, I feel like I will be blacklisted after I graduate from medical school.
So, fast forward to today, how do I communicate that I want to resign? It’s so hard because they did everything right and it’s the dream job, besides being an attending physician, which I am not yet. They trust me to do my work. They respect me. They give me manageable work. 37.5 hour work week or less as it is hybrid, but get full pay. I don’t want to ruin it for the next premed. And I do not want to get blacklisted. Is getting blacklisted worth it?
Not sure if I even want to practice medicine in this state as my med school is in a different state.
