Furniture store – 100% turnover in one year

A few years ago, I was hired as a designer for an upscale new furniture store. Brand new flagship giant box. I was on the team training even before it opened. Yeah, “designer” actually meant salesperson, but whatever, I'll make it work. I was regularly turning in GIANT tickets. Like $17K custom orders, etc. So I was casually chatting with a colleague about another “quirky” guy. He seemed kinda harmless, but definitely a bit tweaked. And he was my only competition. Just on a hunch, I googled him. Very top item is a court record showing he is a tier 2 sex offender – involving minors. Ok, so now two of us have this info on the guy. It's public info, so not exactly a secret, but very uncomfortable to “hold onto” when several other staff has young children living nearby. Another factor: 1 in 6 boys have experienced sexual…

It's public info, so not exactly a secret, but very uncomfortable to “hold onto” when several other staff has young children living nearby. Another factor: 1 in 6 boys have experienced sexual abuse. You learn that in therapy. After sitting on it for a week, I finally tell the manager, who is visibly shaken. A week later, she tells me she can't do anything. Two weeks later, she announces she's leaving. (Probably related to being managed from hell) I go ahead and tell anyone who will listen at that point. This obviously creates chaos amongst the staff. My favorite snark move was leaving his inmate number on the screen of a workstation he regularly used. I terrorized him from afar a much as possible. (That's a survivor thing, I suppose)
Completely separately, another older guy has a heart attack and promptly gets fired for “not coming in” and his insurance is back-canceled to the last day worked. Seriously??? WT-bloody-F is insurance for if you lose it the moment you need it??? Alright, FUCK THIS PLACE mode activated!!
Wish I had a better ending but I got called by a headhunter before doing any damage and my last day was only one year to the day from my first, and still I outlasted every single other person onboard when they opened. Retail. Just don't.
