So, up until Tuesday I worked for quite a large, well know tax company. If you live in the US, you know the company I am talking about, due to their non stop advertising, especially right now.
A few weeks ago, I was pulled into a meeting with someone from what this company calls their ethics board (yes, really.)
This person tried to accuse me of being on the clock and not working (this is basically a remote call center/tax prep job.) I basically told them they were full of it, pointed out a lot of stuff to where I may not being preparing returns, but I was still doing work related stuff. She said everything would be reviewed, I should hear back re disciplinary action in s couple of weeks.
In the meantime, I had been switched to different duties, and was tearing it up. Client said in a survey verbatim that if this company wants to improve, to hire more of me. I would speak to people on the phone, and they wanted my personal line, because I helped them so much. I was winning contests and getting bonuses. I was the only one on my team to meet certain metrics. And so it goes.
So, I did not have a good feeling after this meeting. So, I decided to look for jobs. To my surprise, I had options. Two firms ended up competing over me. I chose the one with the 10k higher salary and health benefits. The money I am going to make is almost as much as I made from working two jobs, as I have been for the past 3 years. I will get benefits. And have an admin, so I can focus on the important stuff. And it's all remote, M-F, somewhat flexible hours. I was crying from happiness, and the decision was a no brainer..
I put in my two weeks at the previously mentioned tax firm. My prissy, hall monitor boss pulled a surprise face, but everything went as expected. I thought I would just finish out the tax season and we would all move on. LOL.
Tuesday this week, I get called into another meeting. My boss is there, and her level 2 hall monitor boss is there. I knew it wasn't good, and that thought was confirmed. I was let go, effective immediately at that meeting. The reason given was that I was on the clock and they did not think I worked.
But I think my move of getting something else and giving notice pissed them off. I wasn't going to play, and I wasn't going to grovel. And I was getting bonuses, which I think pissed management off. So they felt the need to swing their dicks one last time, and let someone who gave two weeks notice go.
But joke's on them. I am finishing up with my contractor job and transitioning to a new, full time job. This job is something I am very comfortable with, and it's my passion. So the former employer can enjoy being understaffed these next few days, while I sleep in and go at my own pace. And begin a hopefully better chapter in my work life.
TLDR; A certain large tax company played a bitch game and got a bitch prize. And EAT THE RICH!
