Getting left on read

I've been working for a company for 2.5 years, started when I was 17. My old managers were decent (not always the nicest but would you make sure you were paid right, contact you to ask if you could work overtime, actually accepted holiday requests. I moved to a new store for university (it's a big UK company) and everyone thinks this company is one of the best for staff treatment. My new manager (and others) are all extremely rude (I have been shushed for trying to communicate something urgent to a manager when all tills broke), I have been told they'd take my break due to being late back the day before… even though I'd been late because of employee training that I was attending.
But my main manager is the worst. She will ignore messages, procrastinate or just not do what you ask, avoid coming to help if a customer is being difficult on the shop floor. Recently, the date of my mum's wedding was finally finalised (after a million delays due to covid) I submitted a vacation request for the date, with well over the required notice period. This request got rejected and so I submitted it again and messaged my manager to explain I couldn't work that day, fullstop. She left me on read, for two weeks, and didn't acknowledge the request (accept/decline) and so I messaged her again a few days ago asking if there was an update, left on read again.
I found her manager and asked to discuss it, said I liked the people I worked with and really did not want to leave. She said she would tell my manager I'd call her tomorrow (today), and she did sympathise (this manager got me my job here, she's alright). I text this morning to ask when would be okay to call, left on read again. I went into store to discuss it and she said “oh I'll try to get someone to cover for you, I'll ask around.” I stated if not by tomorrow I'd be handing in my notice. I slave at this job, I do SO much work and never get any recognition for what I do, I do it because I like my colleagues and don't want them having to do more either.
I went around town today and handed my cv in everywhere, got an interview and it went really well (here's to hoping for better shifts, a 50p pay rise (student life haha), being able to actually sit down on the job and being allowed to study during quiet time) the manager at this new place does actually seem lovely, and it's family run. People seemed very interested because of my long time at other big company, wish me luck finding something before I go broke.

Edit: just to add, she'd constantly put you in for overtime you didn't agree to and get pissy if you said you couldn't do it. Then also, I originally said I could work any days except Saturday and Wednesday, they contracted me 9h on Saturday and Wednesday (that was my whole contract). I didn't get much choice though, moving to a new place I needed the job.
