I have been in my work place for over a year now. I started as a graduate in a technical role. I am on €32,000 since I started right out of college which is good for the level I’m at but the cost of living is high in my country. (One of the highest in Europe) after my year I had my review and they offered 8% which is good on paper but means 2,500 basically added on and with tax and inflation it’s absolutely nothing at all. I didn’t accept it as my review was not with my boss that I work with and I told him and he said I’m worth far more money than that.
I told HR and his boss that I wanted to sit down again. They said yes but a month goes by and nothing. Then all of a sudden I get brought into the office and offered 38,000. Which is less than I wanted but I was surprised they randomly called me in first thing in the morning and just accepted because I didn’t have time to think.
3 weeks prior to this situation 2 new graduates started and I was training them in. ( a point to mention I work autonomously in a niche role for certain aspects of my job that no one else can or will do and then I was given full authority over a package for our current project) well a week after I accepted the increase I found out the graduates are on 37,000. So for a number of weeks I was training these in while I was on 5k less and now I’m only on 1k more. Now I understand why I was suddenly brought in the office and bumped to 38k incase I found out I was on less.
There’s my rant over
