So I work for a huge multi-billion dollar corporation and just got a notice this morning that I'll have to come into work tomorrow morning. (Our company works a 9/80 program so we get every other Friday off) I am in a salaried position and complained to another newer person that I don't want to come in to support a program I have no involvement in specifically. People overheard and mentioned how they “put in 60 hours a week you gotta earn your stripes” or ” I was here until 8pm last night you gotta do what you gotta do.” I think it's the dumbest thing that these people brag about having to stay late and work extra hours to control their programs. I don't think I'm in the wrong for being unhappy about being forced on such short notice that I have to come in tomorrow. I generally schedule house work or doctors appointments on those off Fridays and so now I'm going to have to cancel my doctors appointment because it was a very open ended demand with no end time given, just work until we fix this issue.
I don't understand why salaried position people brag about working so much you aren't getting paid more if you work 40 hours or 60 hours so just work the 40 and go home and live your own life.
