So I took up a job in early February in a virtual events organisation as a growth manager. The company has been a 50 person start-up since the last several years but the pay was decent and the job seemed exciting, plus the boss was quite excited to have me on board.
I joined with a 3 month probation and was told that I'll have to do all sorts of jobs in that tenure to understand the company and then will be moved to core business development. I agreed.
During the course of the past few months I realised why they'd been unable to grow past the current state. Boss is a micromanager, gets involved in literally everything, no hierarchy, no proper office, very casual working environment with a 99% male working population and several more issues which were red flags for me.
I decided to quit after the probation ends and started re-applying for more jobs.
Last week, I landed a GREAT offer from my industry of experience and expertise, at 2x pay and a very senior designation, proper office, younger company etc which I obviously took up.
When I told my current boss this, he said I'll have to stick around to find my replacement and train him, he got a little annoyed because 'he had a vision for me' and his pipeline for Biz Dev roles is very short. Basically said I'll have to stick around for a month atleast but the new employer wants me ASAP as I'm on probation. I have 0 days notice period during the first 3 months as per my offer letter. I have just completed 2.
Now, I know my current boss is being emotional and unreasonable and I can just leave but burning bridges is my last option.
How would you tackle this situation in the best way possible
Edit : I gave him one week notice and he's asked me find my replacement in that time on LinkedIn. Copy pasted his IM in the comments.
