Got fired for asking questions

I am a student and I worked part-time at Tim Hortons (a famous restaurant chain in Canada) to support myself. Folks who are from Canada would know full well what the job entails (minimum wage, long hours and back-breaking work). Things were fine initially and after the new management took over there was a blatant disregard for everything starting from payment processing to safety. They didn't pay us on time and everytime we brought it up, they would cook some story up saying that the cheques got mixed up (for 4 weeks? really?). To hell with it, they won't even stock up on basics such as gloves for food handling (how are we to serve food without gloves?). We handle food from ovens and they didn't even provide us with proper mittens. I requested weekend shifts to focus on school work but the manager for some odd reason had it…

I requested weekend shifts to focus on school work but the manager for some odd reason had it out for me and would put me on closing shifts every single weekend ALONE!!!!. Let me explain a bit about closing shifts. We are supposed to sweep the entire store and mop it, wipe down the table tops, stock up on cups, coffee powder etc. prepare batches for the following day's early morning shift, and discard food waste, all before the closing time while tending to customers. I was able to put up with it for the time being then they asked us all to complete training (I am guessing mandated by Tims) which was totally fine by me but when I ask if the training was paid, they told me that it not and that it was part of the job (which in itself means that we are suppose to be paid). But few of the employees were paid for training. I didn't pry much but I did contact Tims to check if that was the case and they let me know that they will get in touch with the HR agency which handles our location. That's when things got bad, they started slashing my shifts and when I asked them about it they didn't respond to me. The following week, I woke up and found that I was not assigned any shifts and that they have removed me from the work group without any notice or what so ever. I just called my manager and asked her to give me a cheque for the balance they owe and broke all contact with them. I wish to put it past me but it just frustrates me to know that I didn't deserve to be treated like this despite giving my all and that they are still treating some of my friends who still work there the same way. But hey! who cares I am just an international student living in a country where I don't have a voice and all I could do is shrug and put it behind me.
