Got fired or maybe I resigned? Either way my previous employer has sent me zero communication.

I had been working at Warby Parker for about a year and a half. It was okay at first but when they went public late last year, things went downhill fast. The culture changed and there was no care for the employees(surprise). I had been applying to other jobs like crazy and finally in May of this year I landed my dream job. I stayed on at warby for about 2 months into my new job. This was mostly because I didn’t have a boss to send my resignation to. My previous lead quit for the same reasons I was leaving. It took warby a month an a half to assign me a new lead as their turn around is crazy and they just didn’t have the leads for the number of employees. I know I could have emailed HR but I was really uninterested in putting in any more…

I know I could have emailed HR but I was really uninterested in putting in any more effort or energy into warby. Finally, when my new lead reached out, I let them know I accepted a new role outside of warby and that I had been waiting for them to integrate into their new role so I could send in my resignation. I let them know I would be able to meet that coming Thursday to formally resign and to have whatever an exit interview at warby looks like. The Wednesday before the day I requested to meet, I went to check my email to see if my lead had responded. I was met with a notification on my work laptop that my password had been changed and I lost all access. Since then I have not received any communication from them. I don’t know if they took my email as my resignation, or if they fired me. The other day I received two huge empty boxes with prepaid shipping labels to send back equipment. All I have is a small pixel book laptop so I’m honestly unsure of what they’re expecting me to send back. Especially since they sent me ZERO communication. How is this even legal?? How can a large company just not communicate about the status of employment? I’m appalled and want to reciprocate the effort they have put into this. My mom says I should email HR but I’m on the side of sending nothing to them, email or laptop, until they send me some form of communication. I’m so glad to be done with the corporate world and I don’t think I’ll ever go back.
