So, I worked 3 years at one org where I busted my ass, went above and beyond my job description, got two awards, and then found out I was making 10k less than my counterparts. I worked in a different department, but same role.
Invited by the VP of the division I worked half of my role with, to apply for an open position that was a step up.
Understandably, it was a stretch and didn't get it. Left to work at a different org 6 months ago, for a step up in pay.
Same VP reaches out a few weeks ago with a similar position but more in my wheelhouse. I'm a sure fit for it, a good step for my career and another bump in pay. An internal person also applies. She didn't prepare for the interview, doesn't have any project management experience, and while nice, is…not well tolerated by several people in that department. She's very rigid and a bit like a bull in a china shop. She told me she asked one of the interviewers to smile in her interview . I'm 99% certain she has the job though as she told me they brought her in yesterday and discussed the job description and asked if she had any questions.
Here's the kicker. They gave less than 24 hours notice for the interview. Even admitted that HR told them not to, I said I had an all day event with my current job anyway and we pushed it to two days later. 2 hours of 30 questions with two different committees. They know how I am, how I work, and they're asking dumb questions like “how would your colleagues describe your communication style?” How about be a little more creative with you interview. Give me a topic to prepare and pitch. Ask some interesting questions for gods sakes.
I'm not mad I didn't get the job, to be honest. I'm just pissed at the entire bullshit process. And might as well pour some gasoline on that bridge and light it on fire as far as I'm concerned.
