Hello Antiwork
I have been actively reading up on posts in this subreddit and have seen many of your accomplishments. How corporations and leadership screws talent on daily basis. No one is your friend/family in work culture, sadly I learned that too late.
Little bit about myself, (this is throwaway account so idc), started with att out of college was hired at 70k junior and slaved away to 110k for next 8yrs, finally got kicked due to 2020 WorkReform mandate Att Panned years ago (covid fucked that up royally) they let go of massive talent in many states right before covid hit, probably many of you aware of att layoffs of 2019.
Anyway i took my severance and joined verizon for a while as a contractor and then 2021 i got an offer from well known company who used to make razr @105k but they said 95k with 10% annual bonus and 4% yearly merit increase. (Btw i hold mba, ms in IT, and a bachelor degree in EE) This is partial wfh job with 25% required travel.
Fast forward to march this year and found out during performance meeting that there is no merit increase, company stopped that years ago and annual bonus is tied to my performance and company performance which can fluctuate, so 10% is not guaranteed. Only reason I took this job was due to yearly merit increase and the ability to wfh after 13 yrs of back breaking commute.
I am annoyed as hell and don’t know how to go from here, my motivation to perform has hit rock bottom knowing the effort I’m gonna put in wont amount to the reward I’m gonna get given I have already been lied to. And its a bit insulting to my credentials that they lowballed me on offer too.
What are my choices here? Start looking for another job given its only been 5mths? Stick it out for 2 years and keep looking?
