Got passed over for promotion

As the title said, a few months back I got passed over for promotion, for the team that sits beside my team (same role function). Today my line manager has had a bit of a menty b and is going on a “holiday” for an undetermined amount of time. His manager has asked me step up and look after the team. However the team that I would of been manager for is having troubles with the new manager and all the staff on that team come to me for support on the side. I feel like calling in sick for the rest of this week and next week. I have the sick leave to do it and getting a drs note won’t be an issue. Should I step up and support the guys or should I take some time off and let what’s left management really stumble.
