Every employer who’s having a hard time hiring people. Here’s some hints. Get rid of all the pre-employment hoops you require people to jump through in order to get hired. The boomer generation never had to deal with any of this when they got hired back in the day and neither should we.
1. pre employment drug tests. I believe this is one of the number 1 factors in people not getting hired or even bother applying. 1st of all, all states that have legalized Marijuana should no longer be testing for it. Period. Marijuana can stay in your system for up 2 months after smoking it just once depending on one’s body fat level. 2nd of all your drug policy should be for them to be tested only if you have reasonable suspicion to believe their on drugs while on the job, otherwise it’s none of your business what the employee chooses to do or ingest while off duty.
2. Enough with the criminal background checks. Everybody screws up once or twice upon turning 18 yrs old. The lucky ones get away with it and the unlucky ones get caught and slapped with a criminal record for life, we’re all guilty of this. Give them a second chance.
3. Stop with the hiring for 38 hrs a week just so you can avoid paying health benefits. If your going to hire for 38 hrs it might as well just be 40 hrs a week. If your truly hiring part-time it should be somebody who’s only working say 15-20 hrs a week. 38 hrs is just you working the system being cheap.
4. Raise your dam wages! Inflation is up nearly 15% while the average employer raised there employee wages 3-5%. This is a pay cut for most people and this ties with the 1st reason for not being able to hire.
5. Offer full health benefits immediately upon hiring and some type of retirement plan after the employee is vested with your company for say 5 years.
You take these 5 steps under consideration, I guarantee you will no longer have difficulty hiring anybody.
