Guilty for potentially taking a job over my current employer

Hey guys. I’ve been with my current employer for over 8 months, and the experience has been okay. I’m at $15hr as a part-time social media specialist and I help create content for my boss’s 3 different businesses. It’s mainly just us working together and (despite her spotty management skills) we get along pretty well. During this time, I’ve been freelancing on the side as a graphic designer. My latest freelance client (we’ll call them VCC) had me work on a 5 month-long project that paid well. The experience was also great because I worked with colleagues who understood design principles (if you’re a freelance designer you would understand lmao). At the end of my contract, the person I’ve been working for told me they have a job opening for a Communications Manager position at VCC. I immediately sent over my resume and cover letter, got an interview with them…

I immediately sent over my resume and cover letter, got an interview with them the next week, and now I have second interview with them this Wednesday.

Here’s the thing I’m feeling “guilty” of.

My boss at my current job has beef with the president of VCC. Apparently VCC “stole” an idea off of my boss and created a business directory of minority-owned and black-owned businesses. This happened way before I came onto my job, and was told about the situation through my boss couple months working for her. Apparently the situation left her bruised and traumatized, and I felt sympathy for her.

I feel guilty because I’d be leaving my job to work for the same people that “sabotaged” her. Not guilty enough to not take the job offer if I get it, but enough to feel really bad for my current boss.

Has anyone else felt guilt leaving your job to work somewhere else? Do you guys recommend any coping skills? Is this even normal? Your thoughts would highly be appreciated! I can also detail more about my current work situation in the comments.
